How to choose the right type of Classic ginseng?
Bigger ginseng roots are not necessarily better than smaller ones, actually the real grade lies in the shape of the root – the chunkier the better – That’s because the nutrients are concentrated in the body chunk of the root. At Grace Mountain Classic ginseng has six series according the shapes, from long roots to the AAA chunkiest series. Within the same series, the bigger root, however, tastes sweeter and looks better, and thus becomes better gift choices. The smaller roots have the same nutrient value yet better prices. If you have never had ginseng before, I would recommend to start with our Long root series.
How to tell ginseng age?
There are two easy ways to tell a ginseng’s age:
1. Count the stems.
The age of a ginseng plant can be determined by counting the number of stem scars on the rhizome. Each year of plant growth adds a stem scar to the rhizome when the leaf stem dies back in the autumn. A 5 year old plant will have 4 stem scars on the rhizome.
2. The 5-year aroma
The longer the ginseng grows in the ground, the better its taste becomes. 3-year ginseng has a bitter taste, while the 4 year ginseng tastes plain, only the 5-year ginseng has the aromatic sweet taste. Grace Mountain’s 5 year ginseng has a highly esteemed for its superior quality and sweeter taste of ginseng. The nutrients becomes more concentrate with longer growth periods as well.

How to tell a bad ginseng?
You need quite some expertise to tell apart a bad ginseng, because the bad part does not just lie on the skin, on the contrary, most of the bad ginseng on the market looks perfectly fine to customers, the bad part hides inside the body of ginseng roots.
1.Red bad ginseng
When a red bad ginseng is cut, you will see a ring of little red dots around its circumference, much like tree rings, on the cross section of ginseng. This is a kind of common disease, creating a sour taste in ginseng.
2.Green bad ginseng
You will find on the cross section of a cut green bad ginseng, dark green to black patch, has a bitter taste.
